Manage pages

Learn how to organize, rename, duplicate, and delete pages in Pixelesq so you can keep your site clean, efficient, and easy to maintain.

Overview

After creating, editing, and publishing pages in Pixelesq, you may need to perform ongoing maintenance. This guide covers how to manage your pages effectively—reordering them for better navigation, duplicating layouts for quick starts, or deleting outdated pages that are no longer needed.

Prerequisites:

Reordering Pages

Why Reorder?

Sometimes you want certain pages to appear at the top of your Pages panel or site navigation. Although this does not usually change the actual URL (slug) or SEO ranking, it can streamline your workflow or site navigation menus (depending on your theme).

  1. Open the Pages Panel

    • From your Pixelesq dashboard, click Pages in the sidebar.
  2. Drag & Drop

    • In the pages list, locate the page you want to move.
    • Click and hold the “handle” (often represented by dots or a drag icon) next to the page name.
    • Drag it to the desired position—above or below other pages.
  3. Confirm the Order

    • Once you release the handle, the page’s position is updated.
    • In some themes, this also adjusts your site’s main navigation if it’s set to display pages in order.

Tip: If your site relies on manually defined menus, reordering in the Pages panel may not affect your live navigation. Check your theme or partials for further instructions.

Renaming Pages

  1. Select a Page

    • In the Pages list, click the page you wish to rename.
  2. Update the Page Title

    • Within the page’s Settings or Info tab (locations vary by theme), find the Title field.
    • Change the title to something more descriptive or relevant.
  3. Save or Confirm Changes

    • Click Save, Apply, or Update.
    • The new page title reflects in your Pixelesq dashboard immediately.

Note: Renaming the page title does not automatically change its URL slug. If you also need a new slug, edit it in the same settings panel—but be mindful of any existing links or bookmarks pointing to the old slug.

Duplicating Pages

When to Duplicate

Duplicating is handy if you have a layout you love and want a quick start for a similar page. For example, duplicating a product page can save time when adding multiple items with the same design.

  1. Navigate to the Pages Panel

    • From your dashboard, click Pages.
  2. Open the More Options Menu

    • Hover or click the More Options (often three dots) next to the page title you want to copy.
  3. Select “Duplicate Page”

    • Pixelesq prompts you to name the new copy.
    • A default slug may be auto-generated (e.g., /page-copy).
  4. Customize the Duplicate

    • After duplication, open the new page in the editor to update text, images, or any unique details.

Deleting Pages

Temporary vs. Permanent Removal

  • Unpublish: Makes the page invisible to visitors but keeps it in the dashboard as a draft. This is ideal for seasonal or time-bound pages you may reuse.
  • Delete: Permanently removes the page and its content. This can’t be undone in most Pixelesq plans.

Steps to Delete

  1. Open the Pages Panel

    • From the dashboard, click Pages in the sidebar.
  2. Find the Page

    • Locate the page you want to remove.
  3. Access More Options

    • Click the three-dot menu or gear icon next to the page name.
  4. Select “Delete”

    • Confirm your choice in the pop-up warning.
    • Once confirmed, the page (and any associated data) is permanently removed.

Caution: If you delete a published page, its URL will return a “Not Found” error. If this page was crucial (linked externally), consider adding a redirect.

Managing Draft vs. Published Status

  • Draft: Changes are saved but not visible to the public.
  • Published: The page is live for all visitors with the correct URL.

Quick Status Change

  1. Click on the Page

    • In Pages, select the one you want to change.
  2. Toggle Status

    • Some themes let you set a page to Draft again even after publication. This effectively “unpublishes” it.
  3. Confirm

    • If your plan supports scheduled or advanced publishing, ensure you don’t have overlapping schedules.

Best Practices

  1. Keep Pages Organized
    • Rename pages to meaningful titles. This helps both you and your team quickly find what you need.
  2. Use Duplicates Wisely
    • Avoid an excessive number of near-identical pages—this can confuse visitors and search engines.
  3. Consider SEO for Major Changes
    • Renaming or deleting a page with an established URL can hurt SEO if not handled with redirects or updates to internal links.
  4. Review Regularly
    • Periodically audit your pages to remove or refresh outdated content. This keeps your site relevant and user-friendly.

FAQs & Troubleshooting

  1. My Page Won’t Delete.
    • Check if you have the necessary permissions. In some cases, only admins can delete pages.
  2. I Duplicated a Page, but the Layout Broke.
    • Some advanced layouts or custom code might need manual tweaks after duplication. Open the editor and confirm all partials or references still apply.
  3. Renamed a Page but URL Didn’t Update.
    • Change the slug in your page settings or check if a custom domain route is overriding the default path.

Next Steps

  • Optimize Content: Now that your pages are well-managed, explore Collections for dynamic content like blogs or product listings.
  • Advanced Editing: Dive deeper into partials and custom layouts to unify branding site-wide.
  • Publishing & Schedules: Already covered in Publish pages, but revisit if you need to set up advanced scheduling or versioning.

You’re all set to keep your Pixelesq site tidy and easy to navigate! With pages well-organized and up-to-date, you’ll ensure visitors find exactly what they need—and have an overall great experience on your site.
