Create a collection

Create and configure collections to generate multiple pages from a single template, streamlining content management for blogs, services, or portfolios.

Collections allow you to generate multiple pages from one template. This guide will walk you through creating a new collection in Pixelesq. We'll create a collection and prepare it for adding content.

Opening the Collections Selector

In the left sidebar of the Pixelesq editor, click Collections. You'll see a list of any existing collections. To add a new one, click the New Collection button (often a + icon).

Naming Your Collection

The Create a collection dialog will appear.:contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2} "Create a collection" modal with name and options.

Type a Name for the collection. Choose a singular, descriptive name (e.g., "Blog Post" or "Case Study"). Pixelesq will automatically generate a Slug based on the name – this will be used in URLs. You can adjust the slug now or later if needed.

Decide if the collection Has Pages. Leave this box checked if each item should have its own page on the site (e.g., blog posts or services). If you only want to use this collection as data (without individual pages), you can uncheck Has Pages (see Data-only collections guide for details).

Click Create. Pixelesq will create the collection with a default schema.

Understanding Your New Collection

After creation, your collection will appear in the Collections panel. By default, Pixelesq provides at least a Name field (and a Slug for each item). If Has Pages is enabled, a blank collection template is also created so you can design the layout for item pages. At this point, the collection is empty (no items yet).

Next Steps and Troubleshooting

You have a new collection — next you'll likely want to define custom fields for it (what information each item should hold) and then design the template and add items. Continue with the Define fields & schema guide to customize the collection's fields.

If you cannot create a collection (for example, the New Collection button is disabled), ensure you have proper permissions and that your plan allows multiple collections. Also, avoid using a slug that conflicts with existing pages or collections (Pixelesq will warn you if there's a duplicate slug).
